Japanese Houses
Most Japanese houses are made of wood and
plaster. The houses are roofed with tiles.
Most of the tiles on the roof are gray, but
some are blue and some are brown. The colors
of the walls are mainly white, cream and
light brown. In other words, Japanese houses
are decorated in plain shades rather than
colors. The garden is in front of the house.
When we enter the house, we take off our
shoes at the entrance. Most rooms have mats.
Each house has an alter to pray at in an
inner room, the style of which differs according
to the owners' religion.
Some Japanese use beds when they sleep. But
most of us don't use beds. Instead we use
futon. We make it up when we go to bed and
put it away the next morning.
