2000年春に夜中のNHKで、遺伝子組み替え食品についての特集をしていました。 私はそれまで、害虫のつかない直物とは、"虫を寄せ付けない"のだと思っていたのですが、 それはとんでも無い勘違いで、その正体は"花粉で虫を殺してしまう"植物のことだったのです。 取材に応じた学者は、周囲の生態系に深刻な影響はもたらさないであろう、という楽観的な意見を述べていました。 本心か否かは判りませんが、人は依然として傲慢で浅はかなのだと感じました。
