Francis Bacon
British philosopher of science, known for his proposal of "new logic" for empirical investigations, Induction. Aside from this traditional image of Bacon, he was a prophet of the modern combination of science and technology: "Human knowledge and human power meet in one; for where the cause is not known, the effect cannot be produced" (Novum Organum, the first book).
