Interlude: Einstein with Eminent Scholars

Einstein, together with a number of familiar names in European physics. This is a valuable picture.

In the back row, Paul Ehrenfest (1880-1933), Austrian physicist and one of the major correspondents with Einstein, he left, with his wife Tatiana, a classical work on statistical mechanics; Willem de Sitter (1872-1934), Dutch astronomer who contributed to relativistic cosmology. And in the front row, Arthur Stanley Eddington (1882-1944), British astronomer who headed one of the British teams for confirming deflection of light around the sun, in 1919; and Hendrik Antoon Lorentz (1853-1928), Dutch physicist, one of the most respected physicists of the day, and he warmly supported Einstein.
